The Melton Toyota Riddell District Football & Netball League, in conjunction with award sponsor Dome Security, are pleased to announce the nominations for the Steve Turner Medal - RDFNL Dome Rising Gun Award for Round 8 of the 2016 RDFNL season.
Steve Turner is a name synonymous with junior football in the north/western metropolitan areas. Steve is a Life Member of the Riddell District FNL who has held many roles within the league, including a stint as Football Operations Manager and on the RDFNL Board. In 2016, Steve once again sits on the RDFNL Board.
Round 8 - Chris Lawton - Diggers Rest
Chris came through the Diggers Rest JFC and played his first senior game as a 16 year old in 2015. In 2016 Chris was selected for the Calder Cannons squad.
On his return to the club in round eight, he kicked seven goals and was one of the best in the win over Rockbank.
Chris is a smart footballer who plays well at centre half forward and is a brilliant tap ruckman. He is regularly featured in the best each week at Senior level when available and it is of no surprised that he is attracting interest from greater football opportunities such as the TAC Cup.
Chris is a smart CHF/Ruckmen type and is very agile for a big man.
Chris played in the final nine games of the home and away season.
To be eligible for the Steve Turner Medal, players must be under 23 years of age, and have played less than 15 senior games prior to the start of the 2016 season. Players must have played junior or Under 18.5 football in the RDFNL, and have made themselves available for selection in RDFNL Interleague Programs. Macedon's Jason Cooke won the award last year.
