The Melton Toyota Riddell District Football & Netball League, in conjunction with award sponsor Dome Security, are pleased to announce the nominations for the Steve Turner Medal - RDFNL Dome Rising Gun Award for Round 9 of the 2016 RDFNL season.
Steve Turner is a name synonymous with junior football in the north/western metropolitan areas. Steve is a Life Member of the Riddell District FNL who has held many roles within the league, including a stint as Football Operations Manager and on the RDFNL Board. In 2016, Steve once again sits on the RDFNL Board.
Round 9 - Jack Jedwab - Romsey
Jack was a goal kicking machine for Romsey as a junior. He kicked more than 40 goals in a season on two occasions, both in premiership years.
Jack crossed to Gisborne's Under 18s in 2015 where he kicked goals and was named in the best most weeks in a team that made the finals.
He returned home to Romsey this year and enjoyed his first taste of Senior football as a key forward and ruckman.
He showcased his tremendous potential in round nine with seven goals in the win over Rockbank, a performance that elevated his confidence as a player and recognition as one of the best emerging young forwards in the competition.
With the ability to play in the ruck if required, Jack as earmarked himself as one of the best young players in the competition.
Jack finished the home and away season having played 16 games and kicked 20 goals. He kicked goals in his last five games.
To be eligible for the Steve Turner Medal, players must be under 23 years of age, and have played less than 15 senior games prior to the start of the 2016 season. Players must have played junior or Under 18.5 football in the RDFNL, and have made themselves available for selection in RDFNL Interleague Programs. Macedon's Jason Cooke won the award last year.
