Riddell midfielder Paul Sahlberg has capped off a fantastic season by being crowned the 2015 Bowen Medallist as the fairest & best player in the Melton Toyota Riddell District Football Netball League.
Sahlberg was a runaway winner of the league’s highest honor, polling 26 votes to win by 10 votes from Macedon’s Shaun Harrison and Broadford’s Adrian Romanyk, and was presented with his award in front of over 350 people at the RDFNL's Bowen & Ryan Medal night at Lakeside Banquet & Convention Centre.
Sahlberg made it a clean sweep of all of the major awards on the night, being named as the ruck-rover in the Melton Toyota Team of the Year, taking home the Buffalo award as the best player as adjudged by the goal umpires and was also adjudged the Melton Toyota Player of the Year, which is awarded by the league’s senior coaches.
Melton Centrals’ Tran Truong was the other big winner on the night, capping off a fantastic season by taking home the Ryan Medal, the RDFNL's highest netball honour.
Truong, who was named as the wing attack in the Western Water Team of the Year, polled 20 votes to win by two votes from Romsey’s Soli Ropati and Wallan’s Kate Bishop. Romsey shooter Hope Evans was awarded the Western Water Player of the Year award for her fantastic season in goals for the Redbacks.
