The first term at Eric Boardman Reserve was the most devastating, the Kangaroos kicking 12.6 while keeping Lancefield scoreless.
And while the scoreline would hardly suggest otherwise, Meacham hailed the day an impressive hit- out for his undefeated charges.
‘‘We were a bit unsure what to expect. Romsey’s had a big win against them so we wanted to beat them by that much, too,’’ Meacham said.
‘‘Everything worked well. We played a couple of kids and rested a couple of blokes.’’
Sunbury went into Round 4 without Matthew Walsh, who was rested, but played under-18 regular Thomas Borg again.
‘‘ Sunbury Kangaroos have found t hemselves in that situation before. Lancefield only won the flag three years ago so every club has their ups and downs,’’ Meacham said. ‘‘When you are on top you just have to take advantage of when you’re on top.
‘‘You could always be down the bottom in the next couple of years.’’ Meacham was the star of Saturday’s show, kicking 13.4 — straighter than recent weeks — while former Rupertswood small forward Pretty showed the goal-kicking pair could coexist in harmony within the Kangaroos’ top half.
‘‘He’s not a big bloke so I don’t even really notice him,’’ Meacham said.
‘‘ I’m an old man now. I’m trying to get into the kids’ heads that I don’t mind if I’m leading and not getting it.’’
His team now top of the table ahead of a date with Romsey, Meacham will reluctantly accept the premiership favourites tag.
But it’s not one he’s about to flash about.
‘‘I honestly don’t believe we are premiership favourites. So far I think there are six or seven teams, who are premiership favourites,’’ he said.
‘‘I’ve got no problem wearing the tag but it’s only Round 5.’’
Meanwhile, Diggers Rest kept its unbeaten streak alive, thrashing Wallan, Broadford edged Woodend-hesket, Romsey beat Kilmore , Macedon thrashed Rockbank and Riddell toppled Melton Central.
