Woodend/Hesket's Daniel Martin helped his side salvage a remarkable two-point win against Kilmore at the J.J Clancy Reserve on Saturday. Martin has played predominantly as a backman this season but drifted forward to kick two goals in the dying minutes to put the Hawks in front and hold on for their second win of the season.
The Sunbury Kangaroos kicked eight-goals-to-one in the middle quarters to defeat Macedon by 73 points at the Boardman Reserve. Jake Powell was simply sensational for the Roos while co-coach Chris Meacham returned to the team and booted four goals. Callum Dick was a hard worker for the Cats.
After a sluggish opening half that saw just three goals kicked, Lancefield pulled away with nine goals to seven in the second half to defeat Rockbank in a classic at Lancefield Reserve. The win is the Tiger's third and second straight in front of their home crowd. Both teams kicked four goals apiece in the final term with John Baker's six final term goals and Lyndon Thompson's sensational efforts proving the difference. Michael Lindsey kicked four goals for the Rams who are quickly losing touch with the top six.
Riddell did the job it had to do when it defeated Wallan by 28 points at home on Saturday. Peter Robertson put on a blistering performance as the Bomber backline held firm to hold the Pies to one point in the first term to take in a 38-point quarter-time lead. They kept that margin for most of the day. Dave Cornish returned to the Pies line-up and kicked two goals while Robertson kicked four goals for the winners. Melton Central recorded another victory and now sits just one game out of the top six after a four-goal win over Broadford. The Roos led by five points at half-time on the back of an inaccurate 1.7 second term before the Blues kicked 6.1 in the third term and would eventually run away with the win. Shane Fredrickson starred for the winners while Brent Littlewood starred for Broadford.
At Kilmore, the Blues led by 17 points midway through the final term before a player was sent off for disputing an umpire. Martin moved forward and had a telling final few minutes. A snap around the body in the forward pocket proved to be the match-winner as the Hawks celebrated. Youngster Ben Toman was a force in the midfield while Alex Desmond was the best for Kilmore.
