This years A grade grand final lived up to all expectations.
In what was an extremely high scoring games, the lead see sawed all throughout the game.
At quarter time the Cats were up by a goal. Romsey moved Sophie O’Kane from wing attack into the goal attack position and this move produced immediate results. She was able to get the ball to the towering Hope Hamilton who slotted through 8 for the quarter. Prue Stanley was also providing a target in the mid court and her hard work in moving the ball up the court was reward with Romsey leading by 3 at the half time break.
Macedon swung a move which saw Hayley Mackie move into the more familiar centre position and was able to open up the court for Kelly Nicholas to seal close on the ring and do some amazing feed to the goalers.
Romsey moved their captain Bec Locker out to Goal defence where she was able to keep the Macedon captain Alexis Climas goaless for the quarter. However Macedon’s Bec Colwell stepped it up a cog and was dominate in the goal ring shooting Macedon’s entire third quarter score of 13 goals for the quarter, leveling the scores at 34 goals going into the last.
The switch of Danni Davidson back to the Goal Defence position freed up Climas who was left free whilst the two Romsey defenders double teamed Colwell. However, Colwell’s strong holds accompanied by some amazing feeds from the midcourts allowed the Cats to continue to score freely.
At the other end, Macedon’s Bec Moffitt and Emma Wright both took two incredible intercepts in the ring to turn the ball over in the Romsey attacking end which resulted in goals for the Cats.
As time ticked away, the Cats slowly gained the assendency which saw them run out winners over Romsey, and a fitting reward for the retiring Macedon coach, Melissa Climas, by 3 goals.
Macedon’s Bec Colwell was awarded Best on Court.
