The Melton Central FNC and Brian Wheelahan have come to terms for the 2013 and 2014 season.
Wheelahan impressed in his debut coaching season with 9 wins and 8 losses, taking Melton Centrals to its first finals series since 2005. Since retiring in 2011, Wheelahan has brought his strong leadership and communication skills to the role and he has effectively turned the club around with his hard work and dedication.
"We are glad to offer Brian a contract that rewards him for not only his hard work and application to the role, but his professionalism and integrity to the Club, his players, members, supporters and others." President Liam Wilson said.
"It's his first year at it but he has the qualities to get the best out of people, whether they are players, committee or supporters. We are committed in helping Brian develop his coaching for the next two years and there is a lot of upside for him. He is passionate and well respected. He is also a 'no-nonsense' coach, he'll say it as it is. He is a positive coach, a positive communicator and he has high expectations for Centrals."
"His ideas in developing the coaching structure around him and ensuring Centrals has an Under 18's program within the next two years is exciting. As a committee, we enjoy working with Brian and will look forward to working with him for the next two years. "
Wheelahan is also looking forward to the next two seasons with Centrals.
"I'm rapt to have been given the opportunity to continue coaching the club I love. To have the backing from the committee and to be given a long-term contract proves that we are heading in the right direction." Wheelahan said.
"But there is a lot of hard work if we want another year like this year. We need to improve on Season 2012, we need to continue developing and improving our list. We have worked hard in signing players that are not only great players that will add to our depth, but they are also great characters that will fit in perfectly at Centrals."
"We have a vision for Melton Centrals, it is a shared vision and I'm excited to be entrusted with the responsibility to lead the Club and help it reach its goals."
The Melton Central FNC also signed Glenn Nankervis as the Reserves Coach for the next two seasons.
"Glenn stepped up from coaching our Under 16's side in 2011. The Reserves job is one of the hardest in terms of work load but Glenn committed himself admirably for his first year. He'll work more closely with Brian and the senior group for the next two years as well as developing players to ensure they are playing a Centrals brand of football." Wilson said.
"The appointments give Centrals stability in terms of football. Both Brian and Glenn have been at the Club for many years, they have both captained and won Best & Fairest Awards in the seniors and know what is required for the Club to improve. I have the utmost respect for both individuals and will have no doubt that these two great mates will work together for the benefit of Melton Centrals."
Preseason will begin on Monday 19 November starting at 6.00pm. All new players are welcome to attend.
