This Saturday, Rockbank's home match against Rupertswood will take on special significance as the Rams host the Rockbank NAIDOC Carnival at Ian Cowie Reserve.
Celebrating NAIDOC Week is about celebrating Aboriginal Culture, Aboriginal History and Aboriginal people’s Achievements. The West Metropolitan Indigenous Family Violence Regional Action Group will be holding a NAIDOC event in conjunction with the RDFL, Rockbank Sporting Club and the Family Violence services of the West Metropolitan Region. With the West Metropolitans array of Family Violence support services the Family Violence organisations and service providers have all jumped on board with this initiative and will be providing education of Family Violence and awareness of all organisations and service providers throughout the West Metropolitan at this event by Information stalls, promotional material and show bags. Several organisations have purchased signage around the boundary line fence for the next 2 seasons as promotional material to engage the football and netball community, an audience that might not have been targeted before.
The senior game will start at the later starting time of 2:20pm this Saturday, with a special "Welcome to Country" ceremony to take place prior to the game. The Rockbank FNC will wear special NAIDOC jumpers for this game, and hope that this will become an annual event.
