The Riddell District FNL’s Regional State League netball teams are back in action tonight, taking on the Eureka Netball Club in the fourth round of the Central Highlands RSL tournament at Llanberis Netball Centre in Ballarat.
The RDFNL’s Open team returned to the winners’ list last week, recording a 53-38 win in a hard-fought game against the Maryborough Castlemaine District FNL. 2013 Western Water Team of the Year player Christine Harris made her RSL debut last week, teaming with Riddell Bombers’ teammates Yasmin McGregor and Cayley Armstrong to help lead the RDFNL to victory.
Whilst Ballarat-based club Eureka are yet to win a game for the tournament, they boast two of the strongest shooters in the competition in former Ballarat FNL Team of the Year player Steph Burns and 2013 17 & Under RSL MVP Lauren Jew, and cannot be underestimated at all.
The Round 1 encounter between these two sides resulted in a 64-40 win to the RDFNL, who motored away from Eureka in the second half to record a comfortable win.
The Open team take on the Eureka NC at 8:30pm tonight on Court 1 at Llanberis Netball Centre.
The RDFNL’s 17 & Under side will also be in action, taking on a Eureka side who dominated them early in their Round 1 encounter before the RDFNL overpowered them down the stretch.
With a strong squad, coach Eliza Thornton has her players working beautifully as a team – one of the reasons why the RDFNL are currently favourites to take out the 17 & Under title.
The 17 & Under team take on the Ballarat FNL at 8:30pm tonight on Court 2 at Llanberis Netball Centre.
