The Melton Toyota Riddell District Football Netball League is pleased to announce a change of opponent for its VWA AFL Victoria Country Championships fixture in 2015.
After the withdrawal of the Tallangatta District FNL from the AFL Victoria Country Championships structure, the RDFNL will now face off against the Nepean Football Netball League in the 2015 Championships on Saturday May 23rd at Tony Clarke Reserve, Macedon.
The Nepean FNL, who are currently ranked 14th in the AFL Victoria Country Championships ranking structure, also had a similar situation where their scheduled opponent, the Mallee FNL, has withdrawn from the AFL Victoria Country Championships.
Riddell District FNL Operations Manager Toby Boyle is excited about the challenge of taking on a league ranked much higher than the RDFNL, allowing what should be a good measure of where the league stands.
“With Tallangatta FNL withdrawing [from the Championships], we were facing the real possibility of not having senior interleague this year, so to be scheduled to play Nepean FNL is a great boost for the league”, Boyle commented.
“Taking on a league ranked in the top 15 will give us a good indication of where our league sits amongst other AFL Victoria Country leagues, and we’re looking forward to the challenge”.
The RDFNL’s current ranking of 28 is protected regardless of the result of the game against the Nepean FNL, meaning that a loss won’t drop the RDFNL further down the rankings.
It’s expected that, as in the past two years, the Riddell District FNL will field Senior and Under 18 football sides as well as Open and 17 & Under netball sides in the AFL Victoria Country Championships.
Information regarding the coaches and playing squads will be made available closer to the commencement of the 2015 Riddell District FNL season, which is set to commence on Saturday 11th April 2015 with Lancefield hosting Broadford at Lancefield Park.
