Saturday, May 14 2016 is a date that Woodend/Hesket fans will not forget in a hurry after securing one of the best wins by the club in recent memory.
Returning to Gilbert Gordon Oval for just the second time since 2014, Woodend/Hesket beat the Sunbury Kangaroos for the first time since the 2007 preliminary final, a premiership year for the club.
The Hawks led their highly fancied opponents for most of the day for a famous 10-point win.
Conditions were ideal as flag contenders, the Kangaroos went into the game on the back of a big win over Melton Centrals, and the Hawks, a heart-breaking loss to arch-rivals and flag contenders Macedon.
Ben Toman opened up the game with a solid mark and goal for the home team inside the opening four minutes to open up a seven-point lead.
The Kangaroos, with Jamie Cuffe toiling away with the flu, returned fire thanks to a goal from Zane Williams thanks to a free kick and 50 metre penalty. Both teams traded goals to finish the term as the Hawks led by three-points.
