Diggers Rest and Macedon headed into round nine as the two undefeated in the Riddell District Football Netball League. Both were confident in winning their respective games to set up the round 10 dream match for the title of the last undefeated team in the competition.
Diggers Rest played its part, beating Wallan by 21-points. Riddell spoiled the show, upstaging the Cats in an impressive come-from-behind effort to win by 21-points.
The Bombers trailed by as much as 23-points early in the third term before kicking five straight goals either side of three-quarter-time to grind out a confidence boosting win.
It took just 35 seconds for Riddell's Brian Ruffell to kick the first goal of the game. Ruffell marked outside 50 and sent a long ball to the top of the square that cleared team mate, James Nolan and slowly, dribbled through for a goal.
Ruffell added another goal from a strong mark, just minutes later as Riddell opened up a handy 13-point buffer. Ruffell's second goal was the last of a 40 minute goal draught for the red and black army.
With Tom Waters dominating in the ruck, Matt Knox and Shaun Harrison kicked goals to put the Cats within a point at the first change.
