The Riddell District Junior Football Netball League continued its Junior Academy program on Monday night at Boardman Reserve in Sunbury.
The summer programs works towards developing kids from the Under 12s to Under 15s who play in the competition. Players are nominated by their home clubs.
"It is about providing a development vehicle for the juniors in the RDFNL," RDFNL Football Development Manager Grant McMillan says.
"Players get access to good quality coaches, and it is a good foundation for the kids in terms of their skills."
Since its inception five years ago, a number of players who have gone through the academy have been drafted by AFL clubs.
The academy aids with preparation for the upcoming season and the RDJFNL interleague program.
Rob Beatson, Robbie Waters and Brad Fox have assisted in coaching in the academy who have an abundance of football knowledge to pass onto the kids. Laurie Tyquin has also been vital with assisting the Under 12s.
"It's really good to see those people give back to the kids," McMillan says.
