AFL Tasmania's Community Programs Manager, Brett Mansell, today announced the final women's squad of 26 to compete in the 2013 AFL Women's National Championships next week in Cairns.
The squad has been training together since November 2012 as part of AFL Tasmania’s State Women's Program with the final 26 players flying out of Hobart on Monday June 17.
The team is coached by former Brisbane Lions and Western Bulldogs star Trent Bartlett.
“We have been training together for 6 months now and I am really happy with where the players are at. We have lost some players to injury over the last month but that is part of the game and I am really confident the girls representing our state will perform well,” said Bartlett.
The team, which has members ranging in age from 15 to 30 will be captained by North Hobart player Sandy Eaton and will include players from 6 of the 7 Tasmanian Women’s League teams.
AFL Tasmania’s Community Program Manager, Brett Mansell said, “Trent and his coaching team need to be congratulated with what they have done so far. To see the improvement in the players since November has been amazing and the women need to be praised for the effort they have put in.”
