Two of Tasmania’s most promising young female footballers have each been awarded a Jim Stynes Scholarship for 2013.
Zabreena Manjerovic and Maddison Smith have both been awarded the scholarships, which aim to provide the recipient with support as they strive for excellence in the game of AFL.
Manjerovic has had a meteoric rise to prominence in the female game in season 2013.
After gaining selection to the AFL’s High Performance Academy for females earlier this year she was selected to play in the Under 18 National Youth Championships in Shepparton Victoria.
Manjerovic was then selected in the Tasmanian State Women’s Team that travelled to compete in the National Women’s Championships in Cairns last week.
Smith is one of the most highly regarded female footballers in the state with numerous All-Australian selections at both Under 18 and Senior level along with selection in Melbourne Football Club's women's side for this weekends inaugural AFL curtain raiser at the MCG as part of Women’s Round.
AFL Tasmania’s Community Programs Manager, Brett Mansell said, “This scholarship provides a great opportunity for both Maddison and Zabreena to further develop their football. They are both outstanding young women and have done our state proud over the course of this year”.
The initiative, which is being supported by the Commonwealth Government and the AFL is in its second year.
