The 2003 MBF Primary School Regional Championship will be conducted this Friday 29th August at the Youngtown Oval in Launceston. The Championship, which is in its third season, is sponsored by major health insurer MBF and conducted by AFL Tasmania and Primary School Sport Tasmania.
The representative Primary School teams are drawn from major urban regions of Tasmania, including two southern teams from Hobart (South-east Seagulls and South-west Roos); a northern team from Launceston (Northern Bombers); and a north-west team from Burnie & Devonport and other coastal locations (North-west Eagles).
In announcing the third year of the MBF Championship, the President of Primary School Sport Tasmania David Cashion said:
The MBF Regional Primary School Regional Championship provides the chance for primary school footballers from throughout Tasmania to compete against their peers and brings together the best performed young developing talented players. They epitomise what school sport should be about: giving students the opportunity to have fun, develop skills and being members of a team.
MBF general manager and Tasmanian and AFL legend Peter Hudson said:
The link between physical activity and future health of our young people is highlighted at these Championships. They will continue to be a resounding success if young people are inspired to give the television and computer games a rest to become more involved in sports such as AFL.
AFL Tasmania will coordinate photo / vision opportunities for all media outlets from Tuesday 26th August with Championship coaches and players.
