Zabreena Manjerovic of Lauderdale and Ellyse Gamble of Wynyard will both be attending the AFL’s Under 16 Girls National High Performance Academy in Melbourne next week.
The academy, which is the first national AFL academy for under 16 girls, will be conducted from the 3 - 7 February in Melbourne at Visy Park.
The initiative will see the best under 16 girls from around Australia come together to further enhance both their football skills and personal development. The academy has been developed according to the same curriculum as the under 16 boys academy.
Both Manjerovic and Gamble are exceptional athletes who tested well in comparison with players from other states.
AFL Tasmania's Community Programs Manger, Brett Mansell, congratulated the players, "It's a great opportunity for them both to show their level of talent on a national stage. They both have a big future in football and the experience of this academy should only enhance their skill levels to no end."
Mansell continued, "Female football is a real growth area of our game and this academy is another example of the opportunities that exist in the game for talented young females."
With the creation of high school competitions and junior competitions to go with the Tasmanian Womens League, the pathway for young girls from Auskick through to Senior competitions is quickly becoming complete in Tasmania.
