The 2003 MBF Primary School `Country Gold' Carnival was launched today at the Hagley Farm Primary School. The longstanding Carnival is sponsored by major health insurer MBF and conducted by AFL Tasmania and Primary School Sport Tasmania.
The Carnival was launched by Tassie Mariner draft prospect Adam Viney and Tassie Mariner head coach Hamish Ogilvie. They were joined by young players from the Hagley Farm Primary School who have representatives in the Northern Midlands (West) team, which will be the defending champions from last years Carnival.
The Carnival will involve 6 teams and over 12o players in two days of competition at the Youngtown Oval in Launceston on 21st and 22nd August 2003.
Adam Viney has one of the longest playing records for Country Gold, having played for the North East Miners side from the East Coast and Fingal Valley over 3 years of his primary education at St.Marys.
The carnival has provided a very strong introduction to football for Adam and countless more junior footballers from country areas throughout north and north-west Tasmania.
Adam Viney found that the Country Gold program provided him with an ideal introduction to football and helped him formulate his goal of playing at the highest level possible. Adam is now an important player in the Tassie Mariners and is hoping to progress to AFL or VFL level in the coming years.
The President of Primary School Sport Tasmania David Cashion said:
The MBF Country Gold Carnival has a proud tradition in displaying talented young footballers, many of whom go on to carve successful careers and others go on to enjoy participating in our great Australian game. Adam Viney is a fine example and provides inspiration to other young country footballers who may follow in his footsteps.
