THE Tassie Mariners lost yesterday's Challenge Cup match to the
Northern Territory by a goal at Melbourne's Optus Oval, 8.9 (57) to 9.9
(63).
The Mariners, missing crucial players in Todd Grima, Matthew Wade,
Sam Fielding and Sam Iles, led by two points at half-time.
Mariners coach Hamish Ogilvie said it was disappointing to lose but
they had concentrated on their own game plan rather than trying to shut down
the free-flowing Territorians.
He said Sam Lonergan, who made his VFL debut for the Devils last
Saturday, was outstanding with 14 hard-ball gets and seven tackles.
The Mariners' next game is against Queensland on Monday.
