AFL Tasmania has announced the great teams of Tasmanian football as nominated by all Tasmania's longstanding senior football clubs, football associations or the Hall of Fame selection committee and is pleased to advise that the first great team, the Scottsdale team of 1973, has been selected for induction into the Tasmanian Football Hall of Fame in 2005.
The official induction of the `Team' will take place on 15 July at the Hall of Fame gala function at Wrest Point Casino.
The following Scottsdale players who were members of the team were in attendance at today's media conference at Aurora Stadium:
Captain / Coach - Bob Wilson
Players - Greg Lethborg, Ron Hall, Max Hadley and Danny Hall.
The captain / coach of Scottsdale's 1973 team, Bob Wilson, said:
"The 1973 premiership season was a tremendous achievement for Scottsdale and the North - east football community. The ability of Club President Gordon Dilworth to mobilise the community behind the team's finals campaign ensured that we were able to fly by aeroplane to games at North Hobart and West Park. Scottsdale Football Club was an innovator ahead of its time and this ensured that the Club was able to win the State Final for the first time and represent Tasmania at the National Club Championship against the likes of Subiaco, Glenelg and Richmond. Quite a feat for a town of 3000 people!"
