State Head Coach, Matthew Armstrong, was joined by Tasmanian Devils and the face of Footy In Schools, Kane Richter, and Aurora Manager, Ricky McCulloch, at North Hobart Oval today to announce that major Tasmanian energy provider, Aurora, has extended its partnership with AFL Tasmania via sponsorship of the
"Aurora Regional Primary School Football Carnivals'.
The new partnership with Aurora will provide significant benefit to young footballers in Tasmanian primary schools and builds on a long tradition of providing primary school football carnivals to enhance participation and a first step in the football talent pathway.
Other features of the Primary School Football Carnival program for 2005 are:
Statewide a total of 600 players are expected to participate representing all corners of Tasmania.
The Carnivals are conducted over 1 or 2 days in `round robin' format to maximise participation at a higher level of play.
Regional carnivals to be undertaken in the North, North-west and South at the best available venues, including Aurora Stadium.
Schools provided with considerable assistance to travel to Championship games.
Tasmanian Devils and Tassie Mariners players will participate in the conduct of the Carnivals.
The Carnivals will be conducted with the support of AFL Tasmania and Aurora under the Footy in Schools banner.
In a joint statement, the President of Primary School Sport Tasmania, Leslee White, and the Southern Primary School Sport Association, Brendan Breen, said:
"The Aurora Regional Primary School Carnivals provides the chance for primary school footballers from throughout Tasmania to compete against their peers and brings together the best performed young developing talented players. They epitomise what school sport should be about: giving students the opportunity to have fun, develop skills and being members of a team."
Aurora corporate affairs manager Adrian Wild said:
"The Footy in Schools program has been introducing young Tasmanians to football for many years. We are very happy to be extending our partnership with football in schools by supporting these Carnivals, where players take a first step to demonstrating their enhanced skills and teamwork. The Carnivals will continue to be a resounding success if young people are inspired to be active and become more involved in sports such as AFL."
