Its official Tasmanian AFL Auskickers have won the opportunity of a life time - to play on the MCG at halftime of the 2005 Toyota AFL Grand Final.
AFL Auskick Ambassador Robert `Dipper' DiPierdomenico called some of the lucky winners to give them the news. "Calling some of the kids has been a real blast," Dipper said "the excitement in their voices and reactions to winning have been amazing. It shows just how important football is to these young guys".
The winners, accompanied by a guardian, will travel to Melbourne to participate in Toyota AFL Grand Final activities from Thursday of Grand Final week, right through to playing AFL Auskick at half-time of the Grand Final.
Winners will also join Dipper in the AFL Toyota Grand Final Parade plus they will visit the AFL Hall of Fame and Sensation and participate in the Grand Final pre-match entertainment.
How did they get so lucky? Simply by registering in the 2005 AFL Auskick program.
Every AFL Auskick participant across Australian, aged between five and 12, was automatically entered into the competition which was electronically drawn on Monday 1 August at AFL House. One winner from each of the 92 development regions across Australia was selected making this one of the biggest kids competitions of its kind. This competition demonstrates that AFL Auskick is a truly national program which benefits all participants regardless of their demographic.
Simpson, the major partner of the AFL Auskick program, has played a key role in the initiative, continuing their grassroots support of football.
"Simpson is delighted to be involved and applauds the AFL for establishing an initiative that will bring families from all over Australia to Melbourne. To be involved in one of Australia's premier sporting events will be and unforgettable experience and maybe one day we'll be watching one of the winning children live their dream and paly in an AFL Grand Final," said Sandra Camden-Bermingham, Group Brand Marketing Manager, Electrolux Home Products.
