Geoff Walsh, Chief Executive Officer of AFL Club North Melbourne (Kangaroos), today announced his Clubs intention to establish a partnership arrangement with VFL teams North Ballarat Roosters and Wrest Point Tasmanian Devils.
General Manager of AFL Tasmania, Scott Wade, confirmed that the Wrest Point Tasmanian Devils are interested in formalizing a VFL partnership with the Kangaroos.
Scott Wade said "that while the Tasmanian Devils are definitely interested in forming a VFL partnership, all parties need to work through all of the operational and logistical issues before AFL Tasmania is prepared finalise an agreement with the North Melbourne Football Club".
He said, "while much detail has to be worked through over the next few weeks, AFL Tasmania is positive about the benefits that such a partnership will bring to Tasmanian Football".
AFL Tasmania, who holds the licence which enables the Wrest Point Tasmanian Devils to play in the VFL, needs to ensure that any VFL arrangement between the Wrest Point Tasmanian Devils and the North Melbourne Football Club is in the best interests of Tasmanian Football and is supported by Football Victoria.
State Head Coach, Mathew Armstrong said "that a potential partnership between the Devils and the Kangaroos will provide the capacity, long term, to assist the Devils to become more successful on the field. In addition, he stated that AFL listed Kangaroos players will assist the development and education of Tasmania's most talented youngsters, who are currently in our Football Academy Program".
