IN the end, it was no-contest as to which ground the Devils wanted to call their southern home for VFL matches.
With its large, immaculately kept and drained surface, modern grandstands, corporate facilities and kiosks, Bellerive Oval was always going to win out against a small and ageing North Hobart Oval.
But it's what the fans can't see at Bellerive that impresses Devils coach Mathew Armstrong.
Facilities include a state-of-the-art gymnasium near the Devils'
dressing rooms, as well as an adjoining space where much-needed offices could be created.
"Like anyone with a sense of history, I love North Hobart but, when you compare it with Bellerive, it's a community ground versus a modern international venue,'' Armstrong said yesterday.
"At Bellerive, we've not only got all the best facilities for players, coaches, trainers and medical staff, but having the beach and parks nearby will really help our rehab.
"And as for the gymnasium, it's probably the best I've ever seen.''
