AFL Tasmania Development and our longstanding partner Aurora Energy are pleased to announce that Tasmanian Devils player Justin Plapp will launch the highly successful Footy In Schools program this week throughout Tasmania for the 2006 season.
Justin Plapp, in his role of Community / Club Development Officer, is the newly appointed Aurora Footy in Schools Ambassador. He will help coordinate the delivery of the program statewide with the assistance of AFL Tasmania development staff, Tasmanian Devils and Tassie Mariner players.
The program is now commencing it's 9th season and this year's launch will highlight the progression of young players who were first introduced to football through the Aurora Footy In Schools and who are now vying for selection to play for Tasmania at the AFL U16 / U18 National Championships. The three players highlighted (one from each Tasmanian region) are all considered to be potentially draftable in 2006 and future years.
In the 2005 AFL Draft Tasmania had a number of young players drafted, including Heath Neville (Melbourne) and Sam Isles (Collingwood) who undertook Aurora Footy in Schools in their formative years.
Aurora Footy In Schools is the most far reaching and arguably the highest quality sport program offered in Tasmanian Primary Schools. The launch will also focus on the involvement of children who are commencing football by developing skills and enjoying Australian Rules football.
This year Aurora Footy In Schools will be again launched on a regional basis as follows:
Tuesday - 7th March 2006
Launceston - Aurora Stadium (Invermay Primary) - 10.15am - 11.30am
North West - East Ulverstone Primary - 1.30pm - 2.30pm
Wednesday - 8th March 2006
Hobart - Lenah Valley Primary - 9.45am - 11.15 am
Media representatives are requested to attend the launches in their region. Please be in attendance at the start of the clinic launch when announcements will be made.
