AFL Tasmania released the details of the Tasmanian Football Hall of Fame induction ceremony and Tasmanian Football Heritage Month at an announcement today at Aurora Stadium in Launceston.
AFL Tasmania's Scott Wade was joined by Tasmanian Football Hall of Fame committee chairman, Robert Groenewegen, to announce:
* The 2006 Tasmanian Football Hall of Fame Function will be held at Wrest Point on Friday July 7th 2006.
* Tickets are expected to once again sell out and are available from AFL Tasmania offices for $125 per person or $1100 for a table of ten people. Please call 63330602 or 62301800 to book.
* AFL Tasmania will celebrate July as Tasmanian football's `Heritage Month'. As well, as the announcements culminating with the 2nd Hall of Fame induction function it is intended to celebrate Tasmania's football heritage with a number of further initiatives including:
* Hall of Fame Induction Function, the opening of the Tasmanian Football Hall of Fame at Aurora Stadium, the release of football Heritage resources into all Tasmanian schools, the conduct of two celebratory rounds of VFL football which recognise the contribution of a great Tasmanian footballer and the history of Tasmanian state football.
* All Tasmanian football clubs have been encouraged to conduct reunions or other recognition events in July to join the celebration. Already the North Hobart Football Club is conducting a series of events to celebrate 125 years of football in Tasmania.
The Tasmanian Football Hall of Fame was established in 2005 by AFL Tasmania to ensure that the history, tradition and culture of Tasmanian Football is appropriately promoted and preserved.
The Tasmanian Hall of Fame recognises and enshrines the players, coaches, umpires, administrators/volunteers and media representatives who have made a most significant contribution to the game of Australian Football since its inception.
In addition to recognising and enshrining individuals in the above mentioned categories, AFL Tasmania also recognises and enshrines the following:
* The most memorable GAMES played in Tasmania.
* The legendary TEAMS from Tasmania.
* The great Tasmanian football CLUBS.
In 2006 up to 30 people may also be inducted into the Tasmanian Football Hall of Fame.
As well, a maximum of 5 inductees will be elevated to LEGEND status and 2 people will be elevated to ICON status.
The announcement of our new legends and icons will be made on the night of the Tasmanian Football Hall of Fame ceremony.
