State Head Coach, Daryn Cresswell, today announced his final squad of players that will be representing Tasmania in the state game against Queensland to be played at Aurora Stadium on at 5.20pm this coming Saturday evening (June 9th) - refer attachment.
This will be the first state game Tasmania has played since 1999 and will be the first time Tasmania has played Queensland since 1994.
Daryn Cresswell also announced that Ben Atkin, who will most likely be playing his last game for Tasmania, will be Captain of the Tasmanian state team.
Ben Atkin, who is currently playing for his original community club Claremont in the SFL Regional League, retired from the Tasmanian Devils at the conclusion of the 2006 VFL season.
AFL Tasmania General Manager, Scott Wade, said:
"Ben Atkin has been an outstanding Tasmanian footballer and thoroughly deserves the honour of captaining Tasmania.
Ben is only one of three playing life members of the Tasmanian Devils and in my opinion was the heart and soul of the Devils since day one; his presence is definitely missed.
Ben is a passionate Tasmanian footballer and one that I know simply loved the opportunity to represent his state, both when wearing `the map' and the Tasmanian Devils jumper".
Ben Atkin represented Tasmania in 1997, 1998 and 1999, is Glenorchy state wide premiership player and multiple club best & fairest winner, a state wide league William Leitch Medalist in 1999 and the 2002 Alistair Lynch Medalist for the Tasmanian Devils.
