THE Cairns Lions under-18 side overcame a slow start and searing heat to topple Townsville by 30 points at Holloways Beach on Saturday.
Both sides used the match as a warm-up for the Queensland Country AFL Championships in Rockhampton this month, which double as a selection trial for the Queensland Country Kookaburras.
While the hosts started as favourites, Townsville threatened an upset after kicking the first three goals and holding a seven-point advantage at halftime.
