Crocs flag chance of club triple.
The prospect of three flags for the Port Douglas Football Club has not been raised publicly at the Croc Pit this season, but after last weekend's Colts premiership it is suddenly a very real possibility.
The under 17.5 side put in a clinical display to romp home in the inaugural Colts decider, prevailing 13.6 (84) to 8.6 (54) against Cape York House Eagles.
A host of those Colts will bolster the first-placed Port Douglas reserves team and third-placed seniors as they push legitimate claims for those crowns too.
Club president Andy Smith has admitted the dream of three flags has crossed his mind, but won't be dragged into scenarios just yet.
"It'd be nice, but that's all it is (a dream) for now," he said.
"But certainly the Colts played a pretty good brand of football on Sunday, the reserves have the right group there to go all the way and if we can perform to our best in seniors we know we can be very competitive."
Colts captain Ashley Davidson won best on ground as the Crocs jumped to a 54-9 half-time lead, his dad and two-time Crathern Medal winner Rod watching on in appreciation.
"Rod couldn't believe how well they played," Smith said.
"They are just a good bunch of kids and it's a great achievement for a small town like ours."
The hope is that enough of that crop will remain in Port Douglas to form a core of the seniors side, which perennially struggles to retain players.
Even with that adversity they are sitting pretty this season, a win clear in the reserves and third in the seniors.
There is a board of volunteers strong enough to give Smith hope of relinquishing the presidency for good next season.
A loss to Cairns Saints in seniors last weekend - their reserve grade teams had tied in the top-of-the-table clash - consigned them to third.
But Smith said after seven wins and almost three months undefeated, a loss wasn't all that bad a thing.
"It was a bit of a hiccup, but I don't think it's the worst thing to lose now," he said.
"We can get back up and start again this weekend (against North Cairns at home) and go from there."
The game will be a prelude to next weekend's knockout semi-final, while Saints head to Crathern Park hoping to get Matt Walsh (93 goals) to another century.
Manunda and City Lions will complete their seasons with a twilight fixture at Cazalys tomorrow night.
