The Crocs kicked six unanswered majors after the main break to stunt a Lions side that had finished so well only a week ago in a win against Centrals.
While they had the legs at Cazalys that day, it was the Port side who found the extra run when required at Holloways Beach to prevail 14.13 (97) to 10.11 (71).
Recruits Mitch McKee and Ky Chapple (six goals) stood out for the Crocs, while the absence of Adam Gross (fractured foot) and a mid-game injury to Jack Fisher hurt the home side.
The result meant Cairns City Lions stayed on eight points with Souths and Centrals, while round four winners Saints and Port sit equal top on 12.
Norths, who look set to struggle in the wake of hefty losses to their roster, remain winless at the bottom of the table.
Lions’ coach John Tootell said they could not lift when needed and rued another lost opportunity.
“I know we are around the mark this season, but that’s two games now we probably should have won,” he said. “But we are 2-2 now; we haven’t really accomplished anything (despite lifting their overall standard from last season).”
In a battle between two of the quickest sides in the competition there was not much in it, but Port used the ball better and kicked away as the Lions managed just seven second-half points.
They had kicked 10 goals in the first half to lead by nine at the main break.
