The 2015 AFL National Youth Girls (U18) Championships concluded last week in Mandurah, Western Australia with Victoria Metro defeating Queensland in a thrilling Grand Final by 7 points. The Championships featured eight competition teams; Victoria Metro, Victoria Country, Queensland, Western Australia, South Australia, NSW/ACT, Northern Territory and the Woomera’s.
North Cairns youngsters Luana Healy and Elisha King were a part of the successful QLD team. Both Healy and King have been a part of the QLD Youth Girls Program for several years now after successful campaigns with the regions (North Queensland) representative team along with consistent performances in AFL Cairns Juniors Youth Girls and AFL Cairns Women’s Competitions.
Following QLD’s success at the Championships, there were five players selected in the All Australian team, including Cairns very own Elisha King. NB: The All-Australian team breakdown was Vic Metro (5), QLD (5), WA (4), SA (3), Vic Country (2), NSW/ACT (2), Woomeras (2), NT (1)
The All Australian Team is the best 24 players from the Championships. Elisha was selected on the Wing. This is the first time a Cairns based junior has been selected in an All Australian Team.
