And nearing the end of his stint with Cairns City Lions the 20 year old says he is already prompting his mates down south to head north for a look themselves. Haley has been intouchable for the Lions this season, winning countless clearances and pushing forward to a handy 56 goals.
He has done all that while injured, with broken fingers in both hands not stopping him from playing all 17 games. Among the Lions best six in 15 of those Haley has shown all the class that saw him on the brink of a VFL stint with Collingwood. Now fully recovered he plans on having another crack at the next level. "I did a full pre season with them before the injury and knowing I wouldnt have the pace for that level, I thought Id come up here while I could". Haley who linked with the club through captain and mate Cameron Adam said.
Playing in the quality Victorian Amateur Football Association for De Le Salle, Haley said he had plenty of teammates who would consider a season in Cairns following his success. "Ive absolutely loved it and I reckon Ill come back up when Im older, its up in the air but Im looking at having another crack at the VFL with Richmond or Collingwood from November". Haley said. "I never left home because this and its worked out nicely". A likeable lad, Haley was a popular member of the North Queensland side and has never shied away from egaging in banter with rivals all season. Of course it helps when you play well and Haley's ability to win contested footy and kick an entertaining goal have given him plenty of opportunities to chirp.
