BITS VS GLADSTONE
The local derby should have a bit of fire early on as this is the first time the Mudcrabs will come up against their old team mate Nick Stanley. Gladstone are a youthful side and therefore won't fear BITS, however BITS will likely try and knock the stuffing out of them early. Through the midfields the sides are probably evenly matched, however the challenge for the Mudcrabs will be containing the goal kicking ability of the Saints.
Who will get the job on 'The Animal'? Perhaps Reece Sadleir could go back as he has the size and agility, but he has been an attacking weapon for the Mudcrabs. Whoever it is, it will be a daunting task. I expect the Saints defence will be as miserly as ever and will be hard for the Mudcrabs to penetrate.
Prediction: BITS by 49 points
BROTHERS VS GLENMORE
On paper this game looks to be the closest one this weekend. Glenmore's early season form has been good with a hard fought away win against Gladstone last week and Brothers will be better for last weeks run. Brothers will also welcome being back at their home ground.
Brothers will welcome the return of a couple of premiership players which they would be hoping will provide the spark that was missing after quarter time last week. The key for Brothers will be shutting down the run of Glenmore, the Roos still have the players that made them the best defensive team last year and will feel that they can contain the Glenmore forward line. For the Bulls they will once again look to the Payne brothers and Aaron Russell to lead the way. Will Glenmore stand up and upset the reigning premiers or will Brothers kick start season, makes for a mouth-watering contest.
Prediction: Brothers by 9 points
YEPPOON VS PANTHERS
They say a week is a long time in football, but is it long enough for Panthers to put behind them the nightmare of last week. Panthers will be bolstered by the return of some senior players, but it is hard seeing them having enough quality to overcome a Swans side that has re-invented themselves with a youthful and hard-running backline. Yeppoon's defence has been super impressive so far this season, holding BITS to a respectable defeat and repelling numerous forward line entries against Brothers last week.
Yeppoon's midfield is also solid with veteran Wes Hawke providing plenty of clean ball for the likes of Lee Millway. If Panthers are to win they will have to win plenty of midfield clearances and find away to break-down the Swans defence. Panthers defence will also be tested in shutting down a versatile Swans forward-line. Liam Kronk will try hard like he does every week, but will he get the necessary support from Panther's younger players.
Prediction: Yeppoon by 73 points
