VAN HOUT JOINS SOUTHERN MAINE

Another Diamond Valley athlete, Bailey Van Hout has signed on to progress his game in the U.S College ranks, joining the Southern Maine Huskies.

A St Helena Saints Basketball and Plenty Knights junior, Bailey has transformed his game since joining the club a number of seasons ago, where he was playing as a post player, and has worked hard to learn a skill set to be able to play and defend on the perimeter.

Bailey has only recently returned home to Melbourne, having joined the Impact Academy in Las Vegas, Nevada for an intensive 5 month training program to gain exposure in the American Basketball environment. At Impact, Bailey would train 6 hours a day for 6 days a week – this included skills sessions, strength and conditioning sessions, and then would culminate in 3 on 3 or 5 on 5 gameplay.

Since returning home, he has been representing the Eagles in the Big V Victorian Youth Championship Men’s competition.

'The transformation in Bailey since he first arrived at Diamond Valley is amazing. He worked at strength, conditioning, skills and developing an outside game as well as hone his inside game at all ours of the day. Predominantly a post player, Bailey has changed his outlook on the game through hard work and a major support network at home and the club. This has seen him become a more versatile player with 3 point range, a penetration game and a post game so his value to the team is significant. If he applies the same thinking, work ethic as he has shown in the past, I am sure he will have a successful College career', Diamond Valley Technical Director of Coaching, Alan McAughtry said.

DVBA CEO Ross Wignell added , 'This is a great opportunity for Bailey. He recently spent several months at the Impact Program in Las Vegas which should place him well when he moves to Maine next month. I believe Bailey's decision has been largely based around the academic opportunity this move presents and not just the basketball program. I am very supportive of this decision, advising many players to do the same when faced with these choices in the past. Make the most of this chance to improve your game, Bailey'.

Bailey leaves our shores in late August, and we congratulate him on this achievement and look forward to keeping tabs on his progress moving forward.
