OUR EAGLES WIN OVER THE USA!

The Diamond Valley Championship Men's team last night defeated the USA PSM All Stars 129-107 in a free flowing affair at the CBS stadium in Diamond creek last night.

The Eagles jumped out to a 10-2 lead, punctuated with a one hand tomahawk dunk in transition from Matty Jackson and then took a 41-30 lead at the quarter. Nick Dean came in off the bench and provided some instant offence with 8 quick points including a three to finish the quarter.

The Eagles continued to pour on the points, pushing out to an 18 point lead before the All Stars hit back through forwards Kyle Harvey (12 points in the first half) and Chris Hortman (14 points in the second quarter) The Eagles hit back with baskets from Matt Fennell, Matty Jackson, Sammy Reynolds, Kai Woodfall, Neal Haining and then five straight points from Sammy Gazzo to close the half and maintain the eagles 11 point lead, 70-59 at the half time break.

The All Stars came out hard in the third quarter, closing the break to a solitary basket before Adam Moore, Gazzo, Haining and Matt Fennell took over. The Eagles pounded the all Stars on the glass and as a result, pushed the lead back out to 8 points, 98-90, at three quarter time.

In the fourth quarter a hectic travelling schedule caught up with the All Stars and the Eagles rotations – eight different scorers – and dominance on the boards, led to a 31-17 quarter and a comprehensive 129-107 win.

For the Eagles Matthew Fennell top scored with 27 points, Neal Haining was very active on the glass and from the line with 23 points, Kai Woodfall had 17 points including some tough jumpers, Sammy Gazzo chipped in with 16 points, and Nick Dean had 14 points. The Eagles had all ten players score, and dominated the rebounding and steals count.

This game was the Eagles fifth practice game and they will rest this weekend before opening their season next weekend against the Eltham Wildcats.

A big thanks to all the DV staff who assisted in the running of the game, particularly Norm Arthur, Al McAughtry and Jason Van Hout.
