COLLETT JOINS THE ZAGS !

Diamond Valley junior, Grace Collett has signed her National Letter of Intent to join the well-respected Gonzaga Women's Basketball Program.

Based in Spokane, Washington – Gonzaga is a renowned University for both their Men’s and Women’s Basketball programs, having seen many NBA athletes and Australians hone their craft in the McCarthey Athletic Center.Australians such as former Australian Boomer, John Rillie and WNBL player Kelly Bowen attended the university in years gone by and had excellent tenures with the Bulldogs.

Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer and NBA Top 50 player of all time, John Stockton is the most famous Gonzaga Bulldog who went on become one of the greatest Point Guards ever to lace up a pair of Basketball shoes. Coincidentally, John’s daughter Laura is currently a Point Guard on the roster and will play alongside Grace.

‘Grace getting to Gonzaga is the biggest opportunity she will get as a basketball player. They will be getting a mobile, smart and ambidextrous player who has a mid range shot in her tool kit’, Diamond Valley Technical Director of Coaching, Alan McAughtry states.

‘The learning curve and challenges of living away from home will be tests, but her development at both Diamond Valley and this season with the Melbourne Boomers in the WNBL will hold her in good stead.’

Last season, the Gonzaga Bulldogs went 24-7 and qualified for the NCAA tournament, being eliminated in the Sweet Sixteen by number 2 ranked Tennessee in overtime by 4 points. In this season’s early stages, the Bulldogs hold a 4-1 record in the West Coast Conference and will again be a force and handful for opponents to deal with.

DVBA CEO, Ross Wignell adds ‘With several Colleges expressing interest in Grace it is pleasing that she has settled on going to Gonzaga. Another of our graduating Juniors leaving the nest to play College basketball, a testament to the individual development focus at the club. Grace is very good at running the floor. Her work on consistently finishing will position her well come departure time. Well Done, Grace !’

We congratulate Grace on becoming a ‘Zag and will monitor her progress closely during her time in the college system.
