Eagle Smash Wildcats

EAGLES SMASH WILDCATS

The DV Championship men started the season off in style with a 139-69 belting of cross town rivals the Eltham Wildcats. The Eagles led 30-17 at the quarter, 63-33 at the half and then they really stepped it up with a 40-17 third quarter to lead 103-50 at three quarter time. They followed that up with a 36-19 fourth quarter to run out 70 point winners.

The Wildcats were missing sharpshooter Johnny Lister and new import Dave Buchberger after a mix up in relation to their clearances from the United Kingdom. They are also expecting another import later in the year.

The Eagles shot it at almost 60% from the field including 55% from the 3point line (11/20)

Matt FENNELL had 23 points and 10 rebounds, Adam MOORE had a workmanlike 17 points and 17 rebounds, and Brett FENNELL was on fire, scorching the net with 26 points at 73% including 6/7 on triples. Sammy Gazzo had 20 points and 7 steals and Matty REYNOLDS ran the offense with military precision, compiling 15 points and 10 assists.

Neal HAINING and Sammy REYNOLDS also chipped in with 14 and 10 points respectively.

Sammy will however be fined by the team for leaving his uniform at home. The jury is still out as to whether Brett FENNELL will be fined for missing a dunk on the break.

The Eagles also welcomed back Luke VALENTINE who has been away on an extended overseas trip and it was great to see him back on the floor although dribbling proved to be somewhat of an issue!

The Eagles now square off against the Melbourne Tigers at Oakleigh next week at 8.30 p.m. The Tigers boast two imports and Australian U/17 representative Jack Purchase.

The Eagles next home game at the Nest is Saturday the 6th of April against the mighty Corio Bay Stingrays who have been tipped to win it all in season 2013.

Tip off is 8.00 p.m. and we would love to see you all at the game!
