NIKKI 'MONSTER' DROST IS BACK !

Before going to sleep at night, Big V opponents check under their bed for Nikki Drost. Intimidating courage and ‘no regard for her body’ relentlessness in pursuit of rebounds and loose balls – Drost is one of the best-kept secrets in State Championship Women, and she is back with your Diamond Valley Eagles for season 2016.

A Hurstbridge Hurricane and Diamond Valley Eagles junior, Drost has been one of the physically toughest female athletes of her generation and has been a key figure in highly successful teams in juniors and in her years spent in the Victorian Youth Championship Women’s team.

In her first season exclusively with the State Championship Women in 2015, Drost averaged 4.4 points and 6.8 rebounds per game, ranking 6th in the league in offensive rebounds per game – with the 5 players ranked above her averaging 12-18 more minutes per contest to compile similar outputs. 6 of Drost’s 15 games last season included 8+ rebounds. In games against McKinnon and Sherbrooke, Drost pulled in 8 and 7 offensive rebounds respectively – key possessions secured back for the Eagles that helped lead to wins in both contests.

I’m very pleased that our ‘blue collar’ worker has returned for next season. Nikki’s experience, leadership and hard work is an asset to the group and I have no doubt will be a positive impact to our senior playing group as well as the youth league players at DV. Nikki is a great person too - which was an important factor for me and the coaching staff when we were looking at our new roster for 2016’, Head Coach Dee Butler said.

DVBA CEO, Ross Wignell adds ‘Nikki’s competitive edge would be an asset to any team. Her ability to rebound the ball is outstanding. She will be great for this group, tough on the court and will provide exceptional leadership.’

Stay tuned as the signings continue !
