Senior Championship Weekly Wrap
A tough weekend for our SEABL teams and Youth League Men. The Youth Women continued to show why they have been picked as early season favourites!
VYCW
Eagles 80 def. Ballarat 51
The Youth Women put on a dominant display on Saturday night, using a hot start to put away the Ballarat Rush. Up by 17 at half time, the Eagles had a slow 3rd quarter that saw the Rush get to within 8 points. However, Coach Jackson was able to steady the team at 3 quarter time which led to a 23-9 4th quarter. All 9 players were able to get on the scoreboard, as the Eagles were led by Mikayla Peterson’s 17 points and Ivana Vasiljevic’s 15.
VYCM
Eagles 76 def. by Eltham 81
A Slow start is what eventually cost the Eagles, having to play catch up for most of the evening. A big 3rd quarter saw them go from down 10 points, to leading by 1 at the last break. Dylan Dunstan (22 points) and Ben Barlow (16 points) led the way for the Eagles, as all players registered a score on the night. The game came down to the last few possessions, where the Eagles were unlucky not to connect on a few shots, and Eltham coming out on top.
SEABL Women
Eagles 57 def. by Canberra 64
The SEABL Women were unlucky to go down in a tight contest Friday evening against the visiting Canberra Capitals Academy. Neither team ever led by more than 7 and there were 17 lead changes throughout the game. Maddy Rocci was able to get the Eagles to within 3 with an acrobatic layup late in the 4th quarter, but Canberra were able to make their foul shots down the stretch to hold on for the win. Lauren Scherf once again was a standout with 22 points, 16 rebounds and 4 blocks!

Saturday night the SEABL Women faced a tough Nunawading outfit, which proved to be too much in the second leg of their double header. The Eagles made a push in the 2nd quarter, trimming the halftime deficit to 7 but fatigue set in during the 2nd half. Abbey Wehrung led the team with 14 points.
SEABL Men
Eagles 71 def. by Nunawading 91
Without Captain, Darcy Harding, the SEABL Men came up short against a team that is always around in finals time for SEABL. Mike Best had a strong showing, leading the team with 25 points and 9 rebounds, but the experience of the Spectres was too much for the young Eagles outfit. The damage was done early, with the Spectres leading by 15 at half time. The Eagles were able to stay competitive in the second half, showing a lot of fight.
