This weekend is the NBL1’s Indigenous Round, which acknowledges and celebrates our indigenous players and their culture.

The indigenous community have a long and proud association with basketball. This involves significant contribution as players, coaches, officials and volunteer administrators through local clubs, state and national representation at Olympic and Paralympic Games. Our NBL1 Indigenous Round commemorates all indigenous involvement in basketball around Australia.

Diamond Valley’s Indigenous senior players include NBL1’s Ally Wilson and Brianna Gregory, and Youth League’s Aidan Zeverona and Jade Dunne.

Ally Wilson expressed her excitement for the upcoming Indigenous Round, and what the round means to her: “For me personally, this game means a great deal to my people. This is the first ever Indigenous game celebrating our Indigenous culture. It means a lot to me than I can go back to my community and be a role model for the young Aboriginal kids playing basketball, and to be able to share my basketball journey. So I am very proud to be a part of this round, full credit to the NBL1 for making this happen!”

This Sunday’s game at Diamond Valley Sports and Fitness Centre will feature a didgeridoo performance and an acknowledgement of country by Daen Ellis. We would be thrilled to have you all join us for this very special round.
