The squad had already lost some very good quality players from the local league in Jock Oates, Kallum Mazengarb, Blake Laud and Riley Blundell before losing Mitch King to other commitments. There was also a few bottom age players that committed only to the U15s this year. No country area could cover those losses and it was a valiant effort from the team to fight each game out. Geoff Ebert coached the side and found positive signs in the development of local players moving forward and Rookie players at the start of their AFL adventure. Stand out player of the carnival for the Wide Bay team was one of those rookies, Jack McMillan. Now playing for the Bombers U17s, Jack done a fantastic job in playing ruck and CHB against a lot of oncoming traffic. Rhy Darcy gave his usual 100% effort, Nick Jackson got better as the carnival went on, the Williams brothers thwarted a lot of forward attacks, Brennan Saunders didn't look out of place in the last line of defence and Brad Higgins made the most of his limited preperation. Unfortunately, we were unable to sneak anyone into the Kookaburra's team for 2010 but the hope is that some players will use this as a spring board for next year
A commitment to training over summer would have lifted this side another level but with very few having a strong lead into the season, the players are always going to be chasing fitter and stronger opponents.
Thanks to all that helped out leading up to the carnival and over the two days of the Carnival as well. A special thanks to Estelle Cannellas for travelling with the boys as a trainer, even though she had no connection to the group, and Geoff for once again putting up his hand to lead another Wide Bay side.
