Mavericks Keep Lions Winless
Central Districts Lions (52) lost to Eastern Mavericks (86)
The Eastern Mavericks Women have registered their first win of the season with an 86-52 triumph over Central Districts at Starplex on Saturday night.
The young Lions were no match for the three-pronged Eastern attack of Amanda MacDermot, Emma Hooley and Shannon Tarran. The trio combined for 59 points, outscoring the opposition by 7.
The Mavericks came out aggressively, attacking the basket early chalking up a quick 6 point lead. However, the Lions made short work of that deficit and Samantha Saunders' triple with 3:43 left in the first quarter put them ahead.
Unfortunately for the Lions the lead was short lived as Hooley and the rest of the Mavericks finished the quarter on a 10-2 run and regained their 6 point lead.
MacDermot was the driving force for the Mavericks in the second and third quarters, scoring 11 in each and helping her team to a 72-46 advantage going into the final quarter.
Things didn't get much better for the home side, outscored 14-6 in the fourth and failing to add to their total in the final four minutes of the game.
MacDermot finished with 22 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 blocks. Teammates Hooley (18 points, 13 rebounds) and Tarran (19 points, 10 rebounds) both added double-doubles.
Saunders and Brianna Wedding made it double digits for Central Districts with 13 and 10 respectively.
