Eagles Rise In Final Quarter

Woodville Warriors (53) lost to Forestville Eagles (68)

The Forestville Eagles women ran away with a win over the Woodville Warriors, 68-53, at St Clair on Saturday night.

The Eagles entered the final quarter only one point ahead but put in a brilliant performance on the defensive end to restrict the Warriors to just seven points in the final 10 minutes. Forestville also had their best offensive quarter, scoring 23 points to give them the 15 point victory.

Jade Johnson scored seven of her game-high 19 points in the fourth. She opened her scoring in the final quarter with one of her three triples for the game and then concluded by floating in a layup over the Woodville defence. Her floater followed by Alexandra Duncan's jumper put the Eagles up by 10 with three and a half minutes remaining.

Forestville clamped down on defence in the fourth, forcing the Warriors into a number of turnovers which the led to easy baskets in transition for the Eagles.

Earlier in the match it was Woodville that took the initiative as they pushed the ball after rebounds and found open shots due to their ball movement. Unfortunately they could not repeat that form in the second half.

Katherine Perkas had 19 points and 11 rebounds for the Warriors. Carmen Reynolds finished with 12 points and nine rebounds while Jessica VonEinem added 11 points and eight rebounds.

On top of Johnson's 19 points, Carla Borrego Williams scored 14 points and grabbed 16 rebounds, her height was too much at times for Woodville on both ends of the floor. Jess Fergus added 16 points for the winning side.
