Halls and Woollacott Award Winners

Norwood’s Amy Lewis and Woodville’s Alex Starling have won the prestigious Halls and Woollacott medals, acknowledging them as the “Fairest and Most Brilliant” players in the Central ABL season.

The medals, which are determined based on a game-by-game 3-2-1 referee voting system, were presented at a ceremony at Adelaide Oval, along with a number of other awards highlighting individual performances of the 2014 season.

Lewis received 40 votes to win the Halls, ahead of North’s Jo Hill on 34 and South’s Jess Mahony on 31. In doing so, she polled votes in every game, including 9 first preference votes across the 18 round season.

Starling’s win was closer – finishing on 36 votes ahead of Norwood’s Matt Lycett (33) and Centrals’ Kyle Miller (29), with both Starling and Lycett potential winners prior to final round voting.

Starling also won the league’s Most Valuable Player Award, voted on by coaches. The women’s MVP award was won by South’s Janae Howard.

The Merv Harris and Frank Angove awards for the highest vote pollers aged Under 21, were won by 20 year old Flame Jess Good and 18 year old Tiger Sam McDaniel.

Sturt’s Jeremi Moule, whose Sabres had the week off prior to the Grand Final, won the Coach of the Year award for the women’s league, while Norwood’s David Cooper won the men’s award.

The Phill Yuill memorial Referee of the Year award for the Women’s league was won by Michelle Dyson, while there were tied winners for the men’s league – Vanessa Devlin and Nathan Wieland.
