Round 9 WEDNESDAY Preview: Men

By James Woite

Sturt (3-5) v West (7-2)

The Sturt Sabres will attempt to earn just their second win from nine games, when they meet the West Adelaide Bearcats at Adelaide Arena on Wednesday.

The Sabres went down to lowly South 84-87 in overtime last Saturday. Clinton Reed scored 35 points, but missed a game-winning three at the end of regulation, as well as a triple that would have sent the game into a second extra period. Reed also had an equal game-high four assists, while Tim Klaosen was the Sabres’ top rebounder with 9.

The Bearcats have won seven of nine, after finished strongly in their 88-74 win over Centrals. Peter Crawford registered team-highs of 29 points and 6 assists, while David Sturner topped the rebounds with 16.

The Bearcats defeated the Sabres 91-79 on March 29.

Woodville (8-1) v Centrals (3-5)

The Woodville Warriors will be attempting a 12th consecutive win over the Central District Lions, when the two sides meet at Adelaide Arena on Wednesday.

Despite not having Mitchell Creek in uniform for the visit of Forestville last weekend, the Warriors won for the seventh time in as many games. They defeated the Eagles 83-63. Darren Ng scored 16 points, Luke Stanbridge pulled down 11 boards, and Ian Nixson dished off 7 assists.

Despite 38 points, including 11-16 3FG, from Tyler Kennedy, the Lions were unable to overcome West. Christopher Clausen had 7 rebounds, and Joel Goodenough registered 3 assists.

The Warriors and Lions are yet to do battle this year. Their most recent match last year finished Warriors 80-68 Lions.
