Premier League Round 2 Preview

 

MEN

Southern Tigers (1-0) v Norwood Flames (1-0)

In the match of the round, the strength of the new Tigers side will be firmly tested when they host the Flames at Morphett Vale tonight.

Last year’s wooden spoons are first after one game, following their 107-63 defeat over Centrals last week.

The 2015 Premiers have also begun this season impressively, knocking off Woodville 81-56.

The Flames won last season’s series 3-0.

Woodville Warriors (0-1) v North Adelaide Rockets (1-0)

The Rockets will attempt to make it back-to-back victories against the 2015 finalists when they visit the Warriors at St Clair tonight.

The Rockets overcame the Bearcats 81-70 to open their 2016 account.

The Warriors, who made the Preliminary Final last season were blown out after half-time against Norwood.

The Warriors won last season’s series 2-1.

Forestville Eagles (1-0) v South Adelaide Panthers (0-1)

After ending a long run of losses at Wayville last season, the Panthers will be hoping to make it two straight there, when they visit the Eagles tonight.

The Panthers began their 2016 campaign in losing fashion going down to Sturt 69-82.

The Eagles continued their dominance at Adelaide Hills where they triumphed over Eastern 88-69.

The Panthers won last season’s series 2-1.

Eastern Mavericks (0-1) v West Adelaide Bearcats (0-1)

In the only matchup featuring none of Round 1’s winners, the Mavericks will clash with the Bearcats tonight.

The Mavericks’ strong form to close 2015 did not carry over to the start of this year as they were comfortably beaten by the Eagles.

Dating back to their straight sets exit last season, the Bearcats have now lost three in a row following their setback at North.

The Bearcats won last season’s series 2-1.

Sturt Sabres (1-0) v Central District Lions (0-1)

It will be tough for the Lions to bounce back from their heavy defeat at Southern as they are on the road to Pasadena against the Sabres tonight.

The Lions began their season by being on the wrong side of a 44 point blowout.

After ending last season on fire, the Sabres continued their winning ways shrugging off South by 13 points.

The Sabres won last season’s series 3-0.

 

WOMEN

Southern Tigers (1-0) v Norwood Flames (1-0)

The Flames will attempt to extend their winning run to 26 games when they meet the Tigers at Morphett Vale tonight.

The Flames held off Woodville for a 60-50 win last week. The Tigers also got off to a winning start as they easily accounted for Centrals 101-43.

The Flames won last season’s series 3-0.

Woodville Warriors (0-1) v North Adelaide Rockets (1-0)

The Warriors will try to avoid consecutive losses to the 2015 Grand Finalists when they host the Rockets at St Clair tonight.

The Warriors were able to get within 10 points of Norwood in Round 1 after trailing by 20 at half-time.

The Rockets were able to make a successful start, seeing off West 75-57.

The Rockets won last season’s series 2-1.

Forestville Eagles (1-0) v South Adelaide Panthers (0-1)

The Eagles will be looking to make it two from two, when they welcome the Panthers to Wayville tonight.

The Eagles picked up an 86-76 win at Eastern to initiate 2016.

After destroying Sturt twice last season, the Panthers were on the wrong end of a 55-78 scoreline.

The Eagles won last season’s series 2-1.

Eastern Mavericks (0-1) v West Adelaide Bearcats (0-1)

Both the Mavericks and Bearcats will again chase their first win of 2016, when they meet at Adelaide Hills tonight.

The Mavericks suffered a 10 point defeat to Forestville in Round 1.

The Bearcats were beaten by North to the tune of 18 points.

The Bearcats won last season’s series 2-1.

Sturt Sabres (1-0) v Central District Lions (0-1)

The Sabres will be hoping their strong form from Round 1 carries through to Round 2 when they go up against the Lions at Pasadena tonight.

The Sabres beat 2015 Preliminary Finalist South by 23 points to get their 2016 campaign headed in the right direction.

The Lions were 58 point losers against Southern.

The Sabres won last season’s series 2-1.
