West Adelaide Bearcats 73 |Centrals District Lions 47

The West Adelaide Bearcats had success in the opening game of the Premier League's Blockbuster weekend with a 26 point victory over the Central District Lions on Saturday.

The Bearcats didn't have it all their way from the beginning as they had to put down a run from the Lions and keep their composure to stay in control of the game.

Neither team shot well in the first 20 minutes and West had missed a number opportunities to put Centrals away for good in the first half, shooting just 14-47 from the field and holding a 17 point lead going into half-time.

Starting the second half, the Lions mounted a comeback that would put pressure on the Bearcats. Charlotte Taylor (15 points, 10 rebounds) hit three constructive threes to cut the lead to 10 and lift the play of the Lions.

Centrals continued their run as Georgia Madigan (8 points) hit her only three of the afternoon and Abby Perry's (8 points) shot made it a 9 point game. Shortly after, Trudy Holland was given a technical foul as West Adelaide failed to hold it together.

Nine points would be as close as the Lions would get with Amy Porter responding for West as she scored 6 straight points to close the third quarter.

The Bearcats took control of the game once again in the fourth as they forced a number of turnovers and were able to score some easy points on the break to extend the lead and hold onto the win.

The Bearcats displayed a massive team effort: Sky Langenbrinck with 15 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, Porter and Stana Zecevic both scored 11 with 8 and 6 rebounds consecutively, Trudy Holland and Madeline Wormald both had 12 rebounds, while Tahlia Fejo had an 11 point, 10 rebound (5 assists) double-double.
