Round 9 Preview - MEN

By James Woite

Woodville Warriors (6-2, 3rd) v Southern Tigers (9-0, 1st)

In the Match of the Round, the Warriors and Tigers will put their sizeable winning streaks on the line when they meet at St Clair.

The Warriors have come away victorious in six consecutive matches after defeating Forestville 100-67 last week. They are third on the ladder.

The Tigers are still yet to lose and are first on the ladder. They coupled a 92-55 triumph over West with a 100-74 success at Centrals last weekend, upping their winning run to nine games.

The Warriors swept the Tigers 2-0 last season.

West Adelaide Bearcats (3-5, 7th) v Norwood Flames (7-1, 2nd)

The Flames can make it eight wins from nine games if they can triumph over the Bearcats at Port Adelaide.

The Flames knocked off the Sabres 80-59 in their most recent game enabling them to retain outright second position on the ladder.

The Bearcats have fallen back down to seventh following their 37 point loss to the Tigers.

The Flames won last season’s series with the Bearcats 2-1.

North Adelaide Rockets (4-4, 6th) v Sturt Sabres (4-4, 5th)

The Rockets will be attempting to avoid a fifth setback in six tries when they host the Sabres at Hillcrest.

After starting the season 3-0 the Rockets are now out of the five. They were beaten by Eastern to the tune of three points last Sunday. The Rockets are the only side to lose to the Mavericks this season.

The Sabres also fell last round going down to the Flames by 21. The Sabres are ahead of the Rockets only on percentage - a difference of less than 1%.

Although the Sabres lost both games to the Rockets in the 2015 regular season, they were able to beat them in the Elimination Final when it mattered most.

South Adelaide Panthers (1-7, 9th) v Eastern Mavericks (1-7, 10th)

The Panthers and Mavericks meet at Marion this week in a match that could go a long way to deciding the Wooden Spoon.

The Panthers finally got their first win of 2016 last Saturday overcoming Centrals 95-85.

The next day, it was the Mavericks turn to pick up a maiden 2016 victory. They held on for a 69-66 success against North.

The Mavericks swept the Panthers 2-0 last season.

Forestville Eagles (4-4, 4th) v Central District Lions (2-7, 8th)

The Eagles will look to get back above .500 when they welcome the Lions to Wayville.

A 33 point defeat against Woodville last week resulted in the Eagles slipping to 4-4.

Elsewhere, the Lions were unable to get their second win of the campaign last weekend falling to South by 10 and Southern by 26.

Last season’s series between the Lions and Eagles finished in a 1-1 tie.
