Round 9 Preview - WOMEN

By James Woite

Woodville Warriors (4-4, 6th) v Southern Tigers (6-3, 2nd)

The Warriors will be chasing their fifth win of 2016 when they come up against the improved Tigers at St Clair.

The Warriors have slipped out of the top five after going down to Forestville by nine.

The Tigers have more wins they managed for the entire 2015 season. They overcame West 79-66 last Saturday before completing the double with a 115-60 rout of Centrals. As a result the Tigers have jumped to second on the ladder.

The Warriors swept the Tigers 2-0 last season.

West Adelaide Bearcats (4-4, 7th) v Norwood Flames (8-0, 1st)

The Flames can rise to 9-0 if they can come out on top against the Bearcats at Port Adelaide.

The Flames outlasted Sturt 73-60 last round. It was their 32nd win in a row since the start of the 2015 season. This accomplishment beats the feat of 31 consecutive victories over the 2013-14 seasons.

Meanwhile, the Bearcats are amongst the middle of the pack at 4-4. They were 13 points short of Southern last week.

The Flames swept the Bearcats 3-0 last season.

North Adelaide Rockets (6-2, 3rd) v Sturt Sabres (5-3, 5th)

The Sabres will face a 2015 Grand Finalist for the second consecutive game when they visit the Rockets at Hillcrest.

The Sabres were unable to earn their sixth win of 2016 last round dropping their match with Norwood by 13 points. The Sabres could fall out the top five with another defeat here.

The Rockets in contrast, did get their sixth win last week. They battled past Eastern 79-57.

The Rockets swept the Sabres 2-0 last season.

South Adelaide Panthers (1-7, 9th) v Eastern Mavericks (1-7, 8th)

The Panthers will try to make it two in a row when they host the Mavericks at Marion.

Last week the Panthers won for the first time in 2016, knocking off Centrals 94-72.

They now have the same number of victories as the Mavericks who came away 22 points short against North last Sunday.

The Panthers swept the Mavericks 2-0 last season.

Forestville Eagles (6-2, 4th) v Central District Lions (0-9, 10th)

The Lions will attempt to prevent a seventh Eagles win from nine matches when they make the trip to Wayville.

The Lions were on the wrong end of another big loss last Sunday going down by 55 to Southern. That was their second game in two days - they also lost to Centrals by 22 last Saturday.

The Eagles flew past Woodville 65-56 last week. Another success could give them a bit of separation from the bottom five.

The Eagles swept the Lions 2-0 last season.
