Rnd 16: Eagles Men with blowout over Bearcats

By Connor Rice

Forestville Eagles 89 | West Adelaide Bearcats 72

In what was probably the strongest first quarter of the season, the Eagles came out absolutely firing. The harassing defense from Adam Doyle and the rest of the Eagles’ guards ended up in numerous steals and easy layups from the beginning. Multiple outside makes and strong attacks at the rim put the Eagles up big.

For what is a good league team, the Bearcats looked totally overmatched against a determined Eagles outfit. From the opening tip, it seemed as if they wanted to pile up the early points as they blew out a 30 point first quarter margin. Special mention to new 36ers Recruit Adam Doyle, who played some amazing defense and also finished well around the rim for his 28 total points. He really set the tone for the game as his team mates followed suit.

The second quarter was a better showing for the Bearcats as they actually won the quarter in scoring. While the deficit wasn’t any better it was good to see them still playing hard and still looking to score while being down big. Blake Truslove who finished with 18 points was a massive help inside and his low post work was tough to contain for the smaller Eagles. Spear and Perkins also chipped in 17 total points as the Bearcats tried to claw their way back.

The second half was similar to the first and the Bearcats did score more freely but the Eagles cruised to a relatively easy win. Despite the large deficit, the game was still very intense and up tempo. A combination of both the Bearcats’ crowd and their play style meant they weren’t going to give up easily and this was very commendable in what could have easily become a throwaway game.

Ultimately it was the Eagles elite defensive ability and attacking of the rim that proved way too much to contain for the Bearcats. Determination and effort really helped them start the game strongly and not many teams would be able to get that sort of lead up after a quarter. The Eagles will likely use this game as a key example of just how good they can be, when everyone is locked in.
